07 October 2025

The European Association of Chicory Inulin Producers (Comité Européen des Fabricants d’Inuline – CEFI) is proud to announce its membership in the International Probiotic Association (IPA).
As leading producers of chicory root fibres – inulin and oligofructose, CEFI brings decades of scientific and regulatory expertise in the field of scientifically proven plant-based prebiotics. By contributing this knowledge, CEFI will help advance IPA’s mission to promote the science and benefits of pre-, pro-, and postbiotics and will add valuable weight to IPA’s role as advocate for the safe and efficacious use of -biotics.
IPA works worldwide with scientific experts, regulatory bodies, and industry leaders to advocate for policies, best practices, and regulations that foster growth in the biotics sector while safeguarding public health. As a new member, CEFI aims to strengthen the position of prebiotics within the association by setting clear, science-based definition and standards, supporting their responsible use, and enhancing their recognition across the food industry.
Since 1999, IPA has been a trusted, science-driven voice for the probiotics industry. In 2023, it expanded its strategic scope to include prebiotics, postbiotics, and synbiotics. Recently it adopted the International Scientific Association for Pro- and Prebiotics (ISAPP) definition of prebiotics, underscoring its commitment to consistency, integrity, and innovation in the field.
CEFI is a non-profit organisation representing the world’s major chicory inulin producers: COSUCRA, BENEO and Sensus (Royal Cosun). United as a European association, this industry leaders cooperate on regulatory topics related to health, nutrition, and sustainability in the EU and beyond. In addition, CEFI actively promotes the sustainable cultivation of chicory as a source of high-quality chicory root fibres.
